I've visited Highgate East Cemetery before, where Karl Marx and Douglas Adams and many others are buried, but never the older West Cemetery. It's beautiful - these photos don't show you the snowdrops everywhere or the effect of all the monuments through the trees, or give any idea of just how big it is.
There are a few more recent graves, Beryl Bainbridge, and poor Alexander Litvinenko. But mostly it's trees and ivy, huge monuments to long-dead manufacturers, catacombs (which I didn't go in, you need the guided tour for that), and a lovely balance between controlled conservation and picturesque decay.
